Clarence Pratt 1853 1927
Clarence L. [Leroy] Pratt, one of our most highly esteemed citizens, died at his home here on Thursday, Oct. 20 after a lingering illness. Mr. Pratt was born in Stamford, Vt., on April 7, 1853, and came to Illinois with his parents, John and Lydia Pratt, in 1854. He was one of a large family, all deceased but four sisters--Mrs. George Prouty and Mrs. Ella Powers of Wauconda, Mrs. Emily Ames, Libertyville, and Mrs. E. A. Golding, Norwood Park. Mr. Pratt was married to Fanny Irene Bangs, only daughter of Justus and Caroline Bangs, on January 22, 1877, and they celebrated their golden wedding on January twenty-second of this year. They were the parents of six children--Claude W., Wauconda; Mrs. Nina Tomiskey, Crystal Lake; Mrs. Winnie Murphy and Mrs. Ed. Einborn, Chicago; and Charles Pearl and Robin Pratt, both deceased. Besides the children, his widow and sisters, the deceased leaves six grandchildren. With the exception of a few years spent in Iowa, Mr. Pratt had lived practically his whole life in Wauconda, where he had engaged in various mercantile pursuits, to which he was most fittingly adapted. The funeral was held at the Federated church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Mayor R. C. Kent, a lifelong friend of the deceased, assisted the pastor, and there was singing by a mixed quartet from the Eastern Star, of which organization he had been Worthy Patron, and a solo by Floyd Godfrey of Chicago. The floral offerings gave a touching testimony to the esteem in which Mr. Pratt was held by his business associates and many friends.
